5 Things I'm Loving

I don't have a recipe for today. I made some butternut squash a couple of nights ago and had planned to post that.  Sadly it wasn't what I had hoped and I didn't think it worth sharing.  So here are just a few things that are making me happy these days.  (The rose above doesn't count really.  I had a fabulous climbing rose bush that I bought years ago at the Antique Rose Emporium that bloomed these huge, double blooms almost all year long.  I loved it and miss it. I hope the new home owners like it as much as I did!)

So I have jumped right over Thanksgiving and am listening to Christmas music already.  I know, I know, sacrilege.  But I love this CD so much I went right ahead and starting listening last week.  Sarah McLachlan is probably known to all of you, but you have may have missed this record.  It is old (maybe 7 years?) but one I look forward to every year.  My two favorite songs on it are Wintersong, and Song for a Winter's Night.

I haven't been watching that much tv lately. I spend much of my free time in the evenings either doing homework or writing this blog.  My goal starting next week is to get more yoga in and to pick back up my needlepoint.  That said, I have been watching a few things….The Good Wife, Top Chef, Scandal, and this new show….How to Get Away with Murder. It's my new favorite. I don't think it has anything to do with reality but it is good!  A little smutty, but certainly unpredictable!

I am still loving hot tea.  I picked up this one from Trader Joe's.  It is a nice seasonal blend with cinnamon, ginger, chammomile, orange peel and a little bit of apple which is really nice. It is good as is, no sweetener required.

I am a chocolate addict and eat a little bit almost every day.  I don't really like milk chocolate, and nothing too sweet.  A good dark chocolate is just the best.  I picked up one of these bars the other day. It is not as dark as I usually eat - it doesn't have the percent cocoa on the label - but it is delicious.  Silky smooth and a really nice chocolate flavor.  A new favorite!

And lastly this seems really lame, but I love my cheese plane.  Do you have one?  It is just the best way to cut your own slices of cheese off a big block.  Central Market had a giveaway a few weeks ago and I got this new one.  It cuts such a nice slice. I buy big blocks of sharp cheddar cheese at Costco (what a deal!) and use this to cut off slices to put on sandwiches, toast on sourdough bread or layer in an omelet.  If you don't have one, I recommend it.  (Any brand is good…)

I hope you all have a good weekend as we head into Thanksgiving. I'll be back with a recipe or two!  I have a week off of school….Woo Hoo!
