A Few Favorite Things....

a beautiful day last week

a beautiful day last week

Hello! I hope everyone made it through the storms yesterday.  We had a short burst of really hard rain with strong winds that lasted all day.  My neighborhood lost electricity at 1:30 pm and it finally came back on at 8:30pm.  Fortunately it was 60 degrees so it was not very cold.  I was prepared with lots of blankets but happily I didn't need them.

I don't have a recipe today but thought I would share a few things I am enjoying these days....

While I was in Maryland helping take care of my friend Sandy I had lots of time to read.  She liked it quiet (no tv) but I liked to sit with her, so I read.  I got this book online from the library and it was great.  The story of a mom who returns to full time work to support her family and is hired at a hip new online reading company.  There are a variety of threads to the story.....impact of electronic books to bookstores, weirdness of tech-y work culture, coping with cancer in a family member, managing work and home responsibilities.  It is funny, sweet, sad. I loved it.  It is well written and reads quickly.

I am totally obsessed with the new Coldplay album.  I have listened to it about 300 times and never tire of it.  I am so excited that I will see them live this summer in Chicago.  My cousin and I are taking our moms for a girls trip and they indulged me with planning around the concert.  Here are videos from my two favorite songs from the new album.

I also have a cooking tip for you that I learned in cooking school.  If you cook much, you may realize that your cutting board can scoot all over the counter while you cut. I use a large bamboo cutting board and it moves on the counter all the time.  It is annoying, makes it hard to get even cuts, and you may even slip and cut yourself. A quick solution is to cut a piece of shelf liner to fit under your board.  Your cutting board will never move again!

Is anyone else ready for Spring?  I know it is close, as I have bulbs shooting up all over the place, and the daffodils are budding. I even see a few green buds on some of the bushes. I can't wait for a big bucket of tulips to brighten things up!

I have been working every day on something needlepoint  This picture below is not my work, but it is so cute and an inspiration.  I am working on a Christmas stocking that I have seriously had in progress for about 12 years or more.  I am almost finished!  I can't wait to move on to something else.  I'll post a picture when I'm finished.  I also am working on a simple but huge canvas of pansies that I got in 1991!  it is a pillow kit that I bought on a trip to England.  Where does the time go?  I have a whole collection of canvases to be stitched.  Doesn't everyone collect projects?  I am working my way through them and actually finished 4 this summer!

Let's see, what else?  Another song for you.  I love this song....it makes you feel 15 again!  Probably because this is what 15 year olds listen to!

I finally got a flag up on my house!  I totally blow the rules and don't take it down at night, but I love it!

I think that's it for today.  Sorry for the randomness.  I will have a recipe for some delicious noodles with tofu and peanut sauce soon!

Looking forward to a sunny day like this one in Austin!
